If you’re good at organizing, accounting, keeping records, or developing creative ideas, the NPI Board of Directors can use your skills. You don’t need to be a native plant expert; you just have to be willing to spend a few hours a month helping to run the behind-the-scenes aspects of NPI. The board meets via Zoom four to six times yearly, and board duties generally take about eight hours per month in addition to the meetings. Officer and board member elections take place in November for the following year. Descriptions of officers’ and board members’ duties can be found in NPI’s corporate bylaws (LINK TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS PAGE. QUESTION - WE SHOULD PROBABLY SAY HOW LONG THE TERMS OF OFFICE ARE: ONE YEAR? TWO? WHATEVER)
This project will serve as a catalyst for positive environmental change, inspiring communities to embrace sustainable practices and work towards a brighter and greener future for generations to come.
Donating to NPI provides extra funds for special projects like neighborhood plant giveaways, printing handouts for NPI talks at local organization meetings, and creating booths for events like garden shows. Be a native plant hero: you can make a difference with your donation! (LINK TO https://native-plant-initiative-of-greater-new-orleans.square.site/ )
If you have at least 25 different species of native plants on a property you own or manage, you’re eligible to apply for the Louisiana Certified Habitat Program. (LINK TO https://www.npi-gno.org/louisiana-certified-habitat/ ) Show off your love of native plants, promote and protect the ecological value of your land, and encourage your neighbors to do the same with a habitat certification sign that announces your dedication to conserving Louisiana’s natural heritage.
Joining NPI connects you with fellow gardeners, enhances your knowledge of native plants, and supports our mission to raise awareness, increase access, and preserve native plant communities for a healthier planet.
From group activities like plant giveaways and garden shows to at-your-own-pace projects like seed collecting and working with the habitat certification team, there’s a volunteer project for every schedule and skill level. Check our Calendar often for plant giveaways, seed packing parties, how-to workshops, and more!
